Etapero vs Wrike
For planning, Wrike and Etapero are close: a Gantt chart, critical path, baselines and portfolio timelines. The difference is where the data lives and how the system works with Jira.
What Wrike is
Wrike is a cloud work management system. According to its help, the Gantt chart highlights the critical path and the new Gantt shows total and free float; critical path is on Business and higher plans. Baselines keep the original dates and feed into reports, and the Gantt chart can show programme and portfolio timelines. We found no self-hosted option on the official site.
Wrike’s strengths
- Classic planning in the cloud. A Gantt chart, critical path with float, baselines.
- The portfolio level. Programme and portfolio timelines on one chart.
- Automations and requests. Forms, approval workflows and templates for many teams.
- Scale. Organisations with thousands of users run on it.
What users say
On Trustpilot Wrike rates 3.1 out of 5 from just over two hundred reviews. Praise covers flexibility, automations and visibility of team workload; one organisation writes that it has used Wrike since 2018 and grown to more than 2,500 users. Complaints include renewal under a 30-day cancellation rule, email-only support and differences between the demo and the plan bought.
On Reddit an agency of more than 250 people says it chose Wrike for proofing, automations and integrations, including with Jira. In the same thread an employee of an organisation with more than 300 users complains about a cluttered interface, weak reports, what he calls a limited Excel import and an unwieldy Gantt chart, while praising support. And a user of a small team writes in 2026 that they consider Wrike one of the best tools but left over paying for seats they did not need.
History in Russia
Wrike has Russian roots: as Habr, a Russian tech community, reported in 2021, the company was founded in 2006 by St Petersburg-born Andrew Filev, and in 2021 Citrix bought it for $2.25 billion; one of its offices was in St Petersburg. In March 2022 Citrix announced it was suspending sales and support for organisations in Russia and Belarus.
Later events are described mainly in blogs of other vendors. According to them, Wrike’s St Petersburg office closed in May 2022, licence sales in Russia stopped, and in 2024 Wrike told customers it would close access by country of registration and IP address from 12 September. We found no official Wrike statement about leaving, so we give this information with reference to its authors.
How Etapero differs
For planning, Wrike and Etapero are close: a Gantt chart, critical path, baselines and a portfolio. The main difference is where the data lives. Wrike is a cloud service, while Etapero installs on your server as one Docker image with PostgreSQL, so access to the plan does not depend on an outside provider’s decisions.
The second difference is Jira. If teams work in the tracker, Etapero pulls issues by label or epic read-only and checks plan work statuses against them. Etapero’s portfolio shows every project’s goals on one timeline together with red-zone risks and problems.
If you need one cloud system for many teams with request forms, automations and ready integrations, and the cloud is acceptable, Wrike is a strong option.
At a glance
| Etapero | Wrike | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | On your server: one Docker image and PostgreSQL; the demo runs in the cloud | A cloud service; we found no self-hosted option on the official site |
| Gantt chart | Yes: all four dependency types, lead and lag | Yes |
| Critical path | Yes, worked out automatically | Yes, with float; Business and higher |
| Baseline | Yes: forecast slippage shows on rows and milestones | Yes, used in reports |
| Project portfolio | Yes: every project’s goals on one timeline, progress, risks and problems | Programme and portfolio timelines on the Gantt |
When to choose Wrike
- You want one cloud system for many teams with request forms and automations.
- Ready cloud integrations matter.
When to choose Etapero
- Data must stay on your own server.
- Teams work in Jira, and connecting it must not change anything there.
Moving a plan over
The work breakdown can be loaded into Etapero from Excel or CSV: it understands column headers and outline levels, including the MS Project export layout, and shows what will change before anything is written.
